Pruines of Natto

Do you like Natto? Have you ever tried?

Natto is considered one of Japan’s most powerful health foods, yet some people with gout avoid it because it contains purines. Personally, I eat natto almost every day.

According to data, natto contains about 113.9 mg of purines per 100 g. A standard pack of natto is around 50 g, which means roughly 50–60 mg of purines per pack (depending on the brand).
The Guidelines for the Management of Hyperuricemia and Gout by the Japan Gout and Nucleic Acid Society recommend keeping daily purine intake below 400 mg, so one pack of natto is well within the acceptable range.

Why Natto Is Considered a Superfood

  • Nattokinase: an enzyme believed to support healthy blood flow by helping break down blood clots.
  • Vitamin K2: produced through fermentation, it may help maintain strong bones.
  • Dietary fiber and probiotics: support gut health and digestion.
  • High-quality plant protein: supports muscle health and metabolism.
  • Natto may also help moderate blood sugar spikes when eaten at breakfast, helping prevent fat accumulation.

In short, natto is a nutrient-dense food that supports overall wellness, and for many people, eating one pack per day is considered beneficial — as long as it fits within their personal health plan.

If you don’t dislike the taste, I highly recommend including natto regularly in your life.
