Is Chicken Liver High in Purines? Can Gout Patients Still Eat It?
Chicken liver is known as a nutrient-rich food, packed with iron and vitamin A. However, it also contains a high amount of purines. On average, chicken liver has about 312 mg of purines per 100 grams. Even a single yakitori skewer (about 30 grams) contains around 90–100 mg, which is quite high.
Since the recommended daily intake of purines for gout management is no more than 400 mg, eating couple of peaces could exceed that limit.
That said, chicken liver also contains vitamin B2, which may support uric acid metabolism. So, as long as you don’t overeat, it can still be enjoyed in moderation.
